The Project Scope
Installation of a 1200 SF negative edge pool overlooking a 100
acre private lake.
This project consisted of the need to construct the pool in such a way
that the negative edge feature would hit the lake. This requirement
required the pool to be built approx. 12 feet above the current
elevation of the property.
The property consisted of a 1400 acre retreat so a remote site was
chosen that allowed us to excavate over a 1000 cubic yards of needed
fill. The retaining walls were built first and the area was then back
filled to bring the pool site up to grade. We then installed 22, 18”
piers, 30 feet deep to support the perimeter of the pool walls. In this
fashion the pool would be self standing even without the benefit of the
supporting soil. The piers were filled to the bottom of the future pool
excavation, while the steel was allowed to carry to the surface. Once
the pool was excavated, the piers were picked up by the belly steel in
the shell of the pool and all were tied together to form a very strong
support system for the shell of the pool. From that point on, the
construction of the pool was fairly straight forward and no real
problems were encountered. The balance of the project continue to
evolve into additional projects from porches, retaining walls,
driveways, entry steps and a very involved perimeter drainage
system.
The project took a full year to build and required our crews to live onsite
for that time. The landscape architect was SWA and PSF did all of
the hardscape, the MEP and finished much of the landscaping.
